Mexico City is stunning for a number of reasons: For one, it is only 4-5 hours direct flight from most cities on the West Coast, and IT. HAS. EVERYTHING. Some of the best restaurants in the world set the standard by which many others follow; there is stellar nightlife, shopping, a deep history built into the very architecture, over 150 museums within the city, and has been one of the largest cities on Earth for the better part of a millennium!

Truth be told, you cannot see this city in 5 days, or a week, or maybe even a year of living here. It is also a city on the rise, with young, progressive people taking the reins of power and steering CDMX toward a sustainable future. Chef Zachary and The Food Bender will be in Mexico City during this time, and if you happen to be in the area, or would like to follow his progress, make sure to tune into @TheFoodBender @ChefMazi and @WinMoreNowAdventures on Instagram.

We lead our first food tour in 2018, and after a very successful maiden tour of Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende in October, The Food Bender and WinMoreNow Adventures are teaming up to bring many more incredible trips as well as live videos and blogs along the way.

The february trip is a fact-finding mission for future trips. Zachary will be exploring the culinary-historical connections that define the gustatory culture that is so much of the Mexican heritage to an even finer degree. Seeking the best cooking classes, guided market tours, and of course the delicious restaurants from Michelin quality to off-the-beaten path foodie heavens…bummer!

If you are interested in joining Zachary and WinMoreNow Adventures, contact us immediately! Though WinMoreNow will be working and playing out of the Condesa/Roma Colonias, we will be exploring Polanco, Juarez, Coyoacan, Centro, and more!

MEZCAL

The true essence of any plant, culture, or land is known cross-culturally as Spirit. This same definition for the distilled liquors from all over the globe eluded me until I met with Mezcal. These spirits of agave are as varied in structure as all the wines of France! With the oldest recorded history of distillation in the world, over a period of at least 3500 years, using over 47 varieties of agave to craft the beverage, mezcal is both literally and metaphorically the distillation of Mexico in a bottle.

I myself have been called to take the dive into Mezcal, and for future tours will include as an essential part of this tour an introduction, not just to mezcal, but to the long traditional methods and manners to which these spirits have been tended. WinMoreNow partner Erick Rodriquez of Mezcal Tradicional Almamezcalera in Mexico City is an agave whisperer, self-styled anthropologist, historian, and thought leader in preserving the old ways of production. The importance of maintaining these roots while the beverage leaps into hipster* consciousness world wide cannot be overstated.

MUSEUMS

With over 150 museums within the city, choosing what part of knowledge to mind meld with can be daunting. Between the Frida Kahlo House to Fine Art to Contemporary Architecture there is no end to where we end up exploring!

For example, the only castle in North America, Castillo de Chapuultepec, sits above Mexico Cities largest park, which houses multiple museums, waterways, the zoo, botanical gardens and more… whatever you are looking to explore, it is certain that CDMX will more than meet your expectations. Zachary and WinMoreNow will be checking out some of the more off-the-beaten path museums for future experiences!

MUNCHIES

Cooking classes, restaurants, bakeries, street carts, roving vendors, insects, tacos, tlacoyos, markets, and more. Mexico City’s rich culinary roots and perhaps even richer future beckon from every corner and tree-lined street.

In fact, Mexico City claims two spots, 13th (Pujol) and 11th (Quintonil) on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants! Now imagine the vast space between the delicious taco vendors and the world’s top restaurants, and you will find everything in between. There is no end to the gustatory pleasures to be enjoyed!
